Summer Adventure in Kelowna
Spring is a great time to enjoy some of the many outdoor Kelowna activities like our world famous golf courses, which open up as soon as weather permits. Our golf courses come alive with visitors and locals alike enjoying one of the longest extended golfing seasons in Canada.
The warmer weather means our world class wineries and vineyards open up their spectacular restaurants and patios, offering magnificent views of the lake. Tantalizing menus specializing in fresh local ingredients paired with world class Okanagan wines will leave you wanting more and understanding why people keep coming back to Kelowna year after year.
Runners and hikers can get out and enjoy the Mission Greenway or take a hike up Knox Mountain as the city awakes with the warmth of the sun. With many sanctioned events in the spring, summer and fall the competitive runners will always be able to keep themselves fit and busy.
Power boaters and sailors start bringing out their boats to enjoy Okanagan Lake as soon as the water starts to warm up. Motorcycles and convertibles get pulled out of garages and shined up anticipating those long hot summer days.
The summers in Kelowna are hot and dry which makes Okanagan Lake alive with activity. The beaches are full and hundreds of boats that can be seen on the lake on any given day. All types of water sports are enjoyed on this clean, clear, deep 80 mile long lake with temperatures that get into the mid 70's during the later summer months.
Para-gliders can be seen flying off Blue Grouse Mountain high above Traders Cove which has extremely good thermal updrafts in the warmer months that can keep them gliding for extended flights with a view to die for. Hot air balloons can often be spotted hovering over the valley on still mornings climbing up and down with the thermals.
The mountain biking scene offers everything from extreme downhill, tons of cross country trails and single track as well as a new terrain park located at the north end of the Mission Greenway. Road cyclists can enjoy organized Sunday morning rides from the downtown area or a leisurely level grade ride along its lakeshore. In Rutland they have a BMX track and skateboard park.
There are plenty of Camping and RV sites around the Kelowna area with 9 Provincial parks, dozens of Rec sites and lots of private sites all within a little more than an hours drive time from downtown Kelowna.
Motorcycle enthusiasts will find the Kelowna area full of great opportunities to enjoy their sport and machines. From road bike cruising to off road biking and ATV / Quad adventures there is something for everyone.
Off road 4x4 fans are sure to find hours of back country fun, all within a short drive from Kelowna.
Special events like the Apple Triathlon, Terry Fox Run, Dragon Boat Festival, soft ball tournaments, Car Shows, Regattas, Centre of Gravity and many more events have brought athletes and vacationers together in this community for well over a century.
